Day 3 With Sheri Holt and Design Team Hop with Chevron Stripe Background Stamp & Spring Words

March 14, 2012 by JustRite Papercraft 4 Comments

Welcome to Day Three with Guest Designer Sheri Holt! Thanks Sheri for sharing all you wonderful creations with us this week!!  Today's Design Team Hop features projects using Chevron Stripe Background, and Spring Words.

Chevron Stripe (3)

I decided to use the current challenge theme as inspiration for this black, cream & gold card.  This is such an elegant combo!  I started with stamping the Chevron Background with Momento Tuxedo Black ink onto cream cardstock and cutting out a small portion by hand.  I just received some of the latest Spellbinders and couldn’t wait to get a few out and play!  I embossed the background with Spellbinders Regal M-Bossabilities.  Then, I noticed the border die from Spellbinders Persian Accents fit perfectly in the peaks of the chevron pattern and the label in that collection is also the perfect size for several  of the sentiments in the Spring Words Clear set.  Don’t forget to get started on your project for this week’s challenge!

These background stamps measure- 4 1/2" x 5  3/4"  which is slightly larger than a traditional A2 card.  Now you can create your entire card including the designer paper with JustRite Stamps.  Each background stamp comes on it's own colored storage board which stores easily in our mini binder box.

Vintage Wallpaper Background stamp is a wonderful background pattern we tons of possibilities!!

Kellie Fortin created a wonderful background paper for her Botanical Butterflies card by stamping the Vintage Wallpaper Background stamp twice – once in cantaloupe, once in tangelo.  Then she die cut both images at the same time with Classic Scallops Edgeabilities to ensure that the pattern repeat would be perfect.  Then she cut strips of tangelo from the background and matching the repeat and the die cut adhered them to the Cantaloupe background.

IMG_2678_3934

Michele Kovack created this yummy card by embossing the background in white and using a brayer to roll color over the white embossing powder — this technique allows you to reverse out the print in the background stamp.  Very cool Michele!!  The leaves and the sentiment for Michele's card are from our clear set Autumn Words!

May 13, 2011 by JustRite Papercraft 7 Comments

Copic Chart JustRite 4 2011-1 PREVIEW Before we get started with today's JustRite Friday Challenge, we wanted to announce a new addition to our webstore — more additions to our Copic Sketch marker collections!

Here's what you'll find new:

4 new Trio collections: Hydrangea Trio, Raspberry Trio, Moss Trio, Tahiti Trio

2 new Quad collections: Ivory Quad and Neutral Gray Quad

2 new singles (RV17 and E23) added to 2 Trios, making them Quads: Latte Quad and Red Violet Quad

For a total of:

22 new singles, 4 of which are the new 2011 Sketch colors: RV63, RV66, YG61 and E23

You can find the new color chart (previewed above) to download from our webstore HERE, and you can find the new collections available HERE and singles HERE.  So don't fret if you already had our Latte or Red Violet Trios,  you are still able to add just the new single marker you may be missing, to complete your new Quad — Enjoy!

Now on to today's JustRite Friday Challenge #055, which is to use this color combination along with JustRite stamps for your project:

JRC_055_Color-Inspiration

A neutral of brown or black may also be used.

Copic color references: B01-Mint Blue, E41-Pearl White (although it appears pinkish in the photo above!), E43-Dull Ivory.
Memento color references: Summer Sky or Bahama Blue, Desert Sand.

Copic and Memento colors are given as reference only and are not required for this challenge (but certainly welcome!).  Please feel free to use any products you wish that closely match the suggested colors.

C-MW-shadowsandshading-lg The grand prize for this challenge will be Marianne Walker's new Shadows & Shading: A Beginner's Guide ($14.95 retail value) and TEN (10) Copic Sketch marker colors of your choice ($57.50 retail value), for a total combined retail value of $72.45!

CopicSketchSHsmall

THREE honorable mention winners will receive Marianne Walker's new Shadows & Shading: A Beginner's Guide ($14.95 retail value) and our new Butterfly Garden set!

09915-Butterfly Garden

For my challenge sample, I used Butterfly Garden and Copic colors from our new Tahiti Trio and Ivory Quad:

CO-Tahiti Trio   CO-Ivory Quad

I made a 'Countdown to Summer' or until 'School is Out' (or until Father's Day!) calendar for my kids:

055-ButterflyCal-SH

I stamped the sentiment center from Butterfly Garden with Memento Rich Cocoa ink onto ivory cardstock, die cut it, and then airbrushed the center with Copic B01-Mint Blue while the cardstock was still in the die.

055-ButterflyCalCU-SH

The outer rim of the scalloped border stamp was colored with Copic E43-Dull Ivory, which perfectly matched the kraft cardstock I used!  The border was then glittered with Star Dust Stickles.

055-ButterflyCalCU2-SH

The pearls accenting the punched butterflies were colored with Copic B04 marker.  I used Memento Desert Sand ink and a Jumbo Dauber to sponge the edges of my die cut image, as well as on the blue cardstock die cuts, to age them a bit.

055-ButterflyCalPeb-SH

For the flat marble pebble magnet marking the last day of school, I stamped one of the butterfly centers from Butterfly Garden, colored it and cut it out.  Then I adhered it to some printed word paper and glued it to the bottom of the pebble.  Magnets were attached to the back of the calendar and back of the pebble, so they can be used on the refrigerator and the pebble moved to count down the days until school is out!

055-ButterflyCalPeb2-SH

The 8-1/2" x 11" calendar I computer generated myself, printed onto ivory cardstock, and is available as a free download HERE.

I also found these samples in our By The Sea Gallery that fit this challenge, to give you a little more inspiration.  Remember, we keep updated galleries on each of our stamp sets in our Design Gallery, so you can always visit there and find instant inspiration!  Or if you don't remember where you saw a specific example, try checking the gallery!

Jeanne Streiff made this fabulous beach scene masculine card (click on hyperlinked names to find full details of each project):

And I (Sharon Harnist) made this photo card with a border from By The Sea:

More Beautiful Day Coloring

February 9, 2011 by JustRite Papercraft 5 Comments

As promised, today we have another tutorial on coloring floral images from our Beautiful Day large oval stamp set.  Design team member, Sharon Harnist, shares how to creatively use Copic markers to color "white" images.  Since Copic doesn't make a white marker (the highly-pigmented ink would be too thick to flow through the marker tips), Sharon shares her tips for coloring things white with Copic markers:

I used the Snowdrop and Lily images from this stamp set (click on images for a larger view):

In my two samples above, both stamped with Tsukineko Memento Tuxedo Black ink on Copic’s X-Press It Blending Card, I used two different ways to color objects white. The first method is to start with a very pale (quad 0) marker color as a base coat on the flowers and then add the deeper shades of color to the centers of the flowers. Here, I used R0000, R81, R83 and R85 to make these Lilies resemble my favorite Star Gazers:

(Greens used were YG03 & YG17). You can also use the Colorless Blender marker to remove color from the outer edges of the flowers, to make them appear even whiter. But I find starting with the R0000 gives a better, less streaky blend than the Colorless Blender:

The second method is to add shading to your white object — after all, even white things have shadows to them, just like colors do! Shading will make the white of your object "pop" and appear even whiter!

In my second example above, I used C1 and C3 to shade the flowers:

If I hadn't added any shading to the white flowers, this is what they would have looked like:

A bit dull & lifeless, right?!!  Another tip to coloring white things is to place as much color around the white object(s) as possible — this will give more life to your project. As you can see in my second example, there are a lot of greens around the white flowers (YG03, YG17, YG63), the pink bow (R81, R83, R85), and I airbrushed the background of the image with Copic Y32. All these things draw your eye to the white flowers and make them the center of attention!

046-SharonNotepadCO

If you have done all of your coloring and then realize you need some white highlights, but forgot to allow for them, or removing color with the Colorless Blender isn't an option, Copic does make an Opaque White "paint" (more like a thick ink, shown in the photo above) that can be applied to your artwork.  Here's a closeup of how I used it on the centers of these Crocus from The Greatest Joy:

046-SharonNotepadGreatJoyCU

For the tag element on my card I used the coordinating tag element and the "Heartfelt Thanks" sentiment from the Fancy Tags Cling set and die cut it the tag  with our tag die from the Happy Everything Kit.  You won't believe how much fun it is to mix and match our 3 lines to create your entire card – JustRite Original, JustRite Cling and JustRite Custom Dies —Combining all the elements will give your JustRite Collection a fresh new look. For more details on my card visit my blog.

Sharon Harnist paired the largest Fancy Label stamp with Spellbinders Labels Thirteen die and the Iris image from our Beautiful Day large oval ribbed set:

Debbie Olson paired Fancy Labels with Snow Drops image from Beautiful Day:

For the sentiment of her card she paired the "Thinking of You" sentiment from Fancy Tags Cling Set with the new CHA Ribbon Banner Dies —Isn't the combination sweet.

Stephanie Kraft paired Fancy Labels frames with a floral image from Beautiful Day

and the Happy Birthday Sentiment from Happy Everything Set. Visit her blog for more details.

Heidi Blankenship took a more Shabby Chic approach to her project by stamping her frame in a more subtle color to give it a vintage feel.  The Rose center is from The Greatest Joy.
