Tutorial Tuesday Multi Step Stamping with the Misti Tool by Heidi Blankenship

May 12, 2015 by JustRite Papercraft 53 Comments

Welcome to Tutorial Tuesday, today Heidi Blankenship shares how to use the MISTI Stamping Tool with our clear stamps and our cling stamps. This tool is perfect for using with our multi-step stamps.

Before we get started with today's tutorial I have a Quick Sale Announcement. Save 25% off all Spellbinders Dies and Embossing Folders.  Sale ends Monday May 18th at midnight.

JustRite_StamperNews_2015_MAY_SpellbinderSale_ICON

Now on to Heidi's Tutorial….

Heidi will be using our new May Release sets - CR-02187 Multi-Step Lilac Bouquet and CL-02182 A2 Garden View Cling Background Stamp for today's tutorial.

  MistiMultiStamping1A

If you are reading this email from a feedburner email you can see Heidi's Video by clicking here.

MISTI is a great tool for consistent stamping.  There is a piece of black foam on the inside to use with clear stamps.

MISTITT-1

To use MISTI with cling stamps remove the black foam piece.

MISTITT-2

You can use the tool facing you or turned to the side–whichever works best for you.  In the video I turned it to the side so it would fit better on my desk for the video.

For the first card I am using the CR-02187 Multi-Step Lilac Bouquet stamp set.  Open the MISTI and place your cardstock in the corner.  *This is important to make sure your paper is always lined up in the corner.  Place the clear stamp on your paper where you would like to stamp it.  Close the lid on the MISTI and the stamp will cling to the lid. (I recommend pushing on the lid to make sure the entire stamp has adhered to the plastic grid).

MISTITT-3

Open the lid and apply ink to the stamp and close the lid and press on it.

MISTITT-4

Remove the stamp and clean the stamp and any ink that may have gotten on the grid.  Line up the second lilac stamp on top of the stamped image. (as seen in the video). Close the lid on the MISTI so the stamp will cling to it.  Ink the stamp and close the lid for perfect placement stamping.

MISTITT-5

Remove the stamp.  Line up the second lilac stamp on top of the stamped image.  Close the lid on the MISTI so the stamp will cling to it.  Ink the stamp and close the lid for perfect placement stamping.

See how beautifully aligned that stamps are….

MISTITT-6

I just keep repeating the process with the multi-stamps as I build up the layers to the images. Remove the stamp.

MISTITT-7

Here is a closeup of my card in progress.

MISTITT-8

The key to getting perfect placement with the MISTI tool is to always make sure your cardstock is lined up in the corner.  Also, if you like to make multiple cards with the same design just leave the stamps in place and stamp as many times as needed and then move on to the next stamp.  You will be able to create a stack of cards in no time!

  MistiMultiStamping2

Here you can see some of the glittery areas of my butterfly and lilacs.

MistiMultiStamping3

Next I want to show you how easy it is to use our JustRite Background Cling Stamps with the Misti. Simply remove the black foam from the Misti. I placed the background stamp face down inside of the MISTI tool.

MISTITT-9

Close the lid and press down so the stamp will cling on the inside.  Open the MISTI and place a piece of paper inside.  Ink up the background stamp and close the lid.

MISTITT-10

I used one of the stamps from the CR-02141 Sentimental Damask Vintage Labels Eight Clear Stamps for the sentiment.  The MISTI tool is perfect for helping you line up sentiments too!

MistiMultiStamping5

Here is a close up of the card.

Darsie Bruno shows you in today's video how to create this gorgeous paper basket.
You can find a full supply list for recreating this basket at the bottom of this post.

  Lilacbloombox

Directions on Cutting and Scoring Basket Base: To create the basket base, cut 2 white cardstock panels 7 x 8 inches. On the 7 inch side, score at 3 ¾ inches.

BasketBaseTemplate

Next turn the paper and score at 3 ¾ inches and 7 ½ inches.  Cut the large side tab out and then cut the scored line to the left of the cut tab up to the middle scored line. Fold all remaining scored lines.  (check out the video to see how quick and easy it is to create this basket).

Here is a close up view of one side of the basket.  The sentiment is from tomorrow's release set Choose Joy Clear Stamps.

  Lilacboxcaa

To create the design on your basket stamp all 4 basket side panels as shown in the video, then put your basket together by gluing one bottom flap to the other bottom flap on one panel. Repeat this process for the second panel. Add glue to the small side tab and bottom on one folded panel and attach it to the side and bottom of the other panel. Glue the last tab into place to finish the base.

Here's another view of the basket. Isn't it gorgeous!

These boxes, once made, fold up flat and are easy to mail to your favorite someone. It’s fun to make these boxes with all kinds of themes like graduation, baby, wedding, holiday and more using ours stamps sets and background stamps.

This is the new April Spellinders Release die –Scalloped Pop Up Box Dies that Darsie used to create her pop up box.

S4-233_Scalloped_Pop_Up_Box_WEB

To assemble the pop up box, cut four from the Box Wall Die and two from the Bar Die. Adhere all four Box Wall die cuts, make sure the tabs are adhered on the inside for a finished look. Then place adhesive on the scored tabs of the Bar die cut and adhere to the inside of Box Wall towards the back half and the second Bar die cut to the front half. Decorate the box edges with either Edge 1 or Edge 2 die cuts. Add elements to the Bar area and square flaps for desired look. Assembled box measures approximately 7½w x 5h x 5d”.

Here is a look at Darsie's first pop up box using flowers and butterflies from our Stitched Flowers Vintage Tags Clear Stamps.  Darsie also stamped the actual box die cuts with our Leafy Cling Background Stamp and used sentiments from our Floral Basket Clear Stamps.

Tutorial Tuesday – Color Burst Tutorial Series 1 with Heidi Blankenship

April 14, 2015 by JustRite Papercraft 33 Comments

For Tutorial Tuesday, Design Team Member, Heidi Blankenship shares how to use Color Burst to create hand dyed seam binding, color mist sprays, and watercolor backgrounds.  All six colors of Ken Oliver's Color Burst that I am using in my tutorial today are now available in the JustRite Store here. Today I am sharing both a written and a video version of my tutorial.

CBTT15

All of these techniques are fun, quick and easy to achieve with just a little bit of Color Burst and some water.

These are the cards that I made using today's Color Burst Techniques

ColorBurst-1

If you are reading this post from a feedburner email  you can see My Video Tutorial here.

Let's start with hand dying some seam binding. I am using the Pthalo Green Color Burst, Hug Snug Seam Binding in Winter White and a mist bottle of water. I am working on my craft mat and I lightly mist the seam binding with water.

CBTT-1

Doing this will allow the color burst to blend into the seam binding. Next lightly tap the bottle of Color Burst so that little sprinkles of the color come out. Remember Color Burst is a very fine and highly pigmented powder. Mist with water to activate the Color Burst. Next add the slightly damp seam binding and move it around on the mat to pick up the color.

CBTT-4

You can add more water if needed. Whenever I make hand dyed seam binding I use up every bit of the color.  My first batch is always the darker more intense color and then I do a second batch using more water and the little bit of color that is left on the mat. Doing this will result in a lighter color. With just a sprinkle of Color Burst and some water I have beautiful hand dyed seam binding in minutes.  For this batch I am using Pthalo Green Color Burst.

CBTT-5

You can set aside to dry or using a heat tool to speedy up the drying time. Be careful if using a heat tool! :) You can also sprinkle some of the Color Burst on dry seam binding and then add the water to achieve a totally different look.

CBTT-6

Color mist sprays are so quick and easy to make using Color Burst. You will need a Mini Mister or small spray bottle. Simply put the tip of the Color Burst bottle into the empty spray bottle and squeeze out some of the powder. Then add some water. I use a dropper to add the water. You can see some of the Color Burst down inside the bottle. Add a little water and then put the cap on and shake to mix. Add more water and shake again. You can also add more Color Burst if you want a darker more intense color.

CBTT-7

Love this pretty light blue colored spray mist! You can also mix the Color Burst to create custom colors.

ColorBurst-4

To create this card I simply added the spray mist to the bottom of my card and allowed it to fade into the white watercolor paper and the top of my card.  I used the "just for you" sentiment from Grand Hand Written Sentiments Clear Stamps paired with Spellbinders S2-139 Sentiments Three Dies.

ColorBurst-5

Color Burst can be used to create beautiful watercolor backgrounds. Sprinkle some of the Color Burst onto the craft mat. You can use two or three different color. Mist with watercolor to activate. The powder is so fine that it doesn't look like there is anything on the mat but check out what happens when the water is added.

CBTT14

Here are the two backgrounds I created in the video using Alizarin Crimson and Ultramarine Blue Color Burst.

CBTT-8

You can do several backgrounds with just a little Color Burst. If you want to add some depth and layers to the water color use a heat tool to dry the paper and then add more color. Do this as many times as you would like to achieve the desired look.

Another way to create a beautiful background is to start with a dry piece of watercolor paper and sprinkle some of the Color Burst on to the paper.

CBTT-9

Then mist with water to activate.

CBTT10

You can add more Color Burst and water if you would like.

CBTT-11

Pick up the piece of paper and move it from side to side to get the colors moving and blending. You can use a heat tool to speed up the drying time.

CBTT-12

Here is a card that Heidi created with one of the watercolor papers she created using the Pthalo Green Color Burst and Lemon Yellow Color Burst with the Pthalo Green hand dyed seam binding.  The Happy Birthday sentiment is from Stacking Sentiments Clear Stamps.

ColorBurst-6

Here is a close up look…I used the sequins to accent my card design and I die cut the sentiment with Spellbinders SCD-012 Pierced Rectangles Dies.

ColorBurst-7

For this last background I used three colors of the Color Burst. I started with the Lemon Yellow Color Burst and Orange Color Burst and then I added some Alizarin Crimson Color Burst. I used a heat tool to speed up the drying time.

CBTT13

For my last card I used our April Release Grand Hand Written Sentiments Clear Stamps and some of the hand dyed seam binding I made in the video to create this clean and simple card.

ColorBurst-2

Here is a close- up of my card.

ColorBurst-3

Here is another look at the hand dyed seam binding. Check out all of these beautiful colors!

Tutorial Tuesday stamping with Sticky Embossing Powder using Foil and Glitter

April 7, 2015 by JustRite Papercraft 32 Comments

Welcome to Tutorial Tuesday. Today JustRite designer Darsie Bruno will be showing you how to use Ranger Sticky Embossing Powder with Ranger Foil and Fine Glitter.

But before we get started we need to announce the winner for our last Tutorial Tuesday Giveaway, Congratulations to Donna Polley who has won a $50.00 Gift Certificate to the JustRite Webstore.  Thank to everyone who left a comment on the blog post or video.

Donna please email me at kellie@justritepapercraft.com with your email and shipping information so that I can send you your gift card.  Please use as the subject line of your email Tutorial Tuesday Winner..

Tips for using Ranger Sticky Embossing Powder - Work with a hot heating gun (warm up the gun before you heat emboss the powder).  As soon as the powder turns clear you are ready to apply foil or glitter.  If you over heat the embossing powder it will not be sticky enough to apply foil or glitter.   In the video Darsie is using black paper so that you can see how quickly the embossing powder heats to clear. It is more difficult to see the powder change to clear when you are embossing on white paper, so we recommend starting with a dark paper until you figure out the timing.

For today's project I used the Spectrum Aqua Markers with CL-02138 Sweet Posies Cling Stamps from JustRite Papercraft to create a wall decor piece. I stamped the floral image on to Strathmore Watercolor paper using Jet Black StazOn ink. Please note that results vary with different watercolor papers.  I prefer using Spectrum Aquas with the Strathmore Watercolor Paper.

  SAMTT-1

To color the flower just do one petal at a time. Start with the darkest color at the base of the petal which is WildFlower and then I added the second color Purple.

SAMTT-2

Next put the brush in the water and then use a paper towel to blot off the excess water.

SAMTT-3

Start on the outer edge of the petal by just adding water and then work your way in to the color. Doing this will allow the watercolor to flow and blend in to the water. If you have too much water on the brush it will wash out the color.

SAMTT-4

If you want the color to be darker or if it does get too washed out you can always add more color.  When water coloring you need to make sure each area is dry before painting another section. So you can either more to another section or dry the area with a heat tool. If you don't do this the colors can bleed into each other. Continue to color the rest of the petals and heat setting in between to speed up the process.

SAMTT-5

To color the yellow center of the flowers I used the Sunflower yellow marker.  I used the fine tip end of the marker.  To color the dark center part of the flower I used the fine tip on the Wildflower marker.

SAMTT-6

To color the leaves and stems of the flowers I used the Moss marker.

  SAMTT-7

It's a little harder to see on the leaves but I water colored them the same as the flowers. Add the color with the marker and then add water to the white area and blend the color out.

To add color to the background I start by adding Aquamarine close to the edge of the flowers. Then I bring in a brush with clean water and I add water first and then come into the color and blend out.

  SAMTT-8

If you get too much water or color on your brush you can blot it on a paper towel.

SAMTT-9

After the Aquamarine color was blended all around the flower and dry then I added more Aquamarine, Teal, and Peacock Blue.

For this part I am using a larger round brush. I scribbled some color from the markers on my board. Next I am adding water to the paper and adding color a little at a time to the background until I get the effect that I want. Adding the water first will allow the color to move and blend.

SAMTT-10

Once the background is done and dried I wanted to add some paint splatters. I scribbled some of the Black on my board and added water. Then I tapped my brush to add the paint splatters. I dried the paint splatters and then added some water drops to create the white drops.

AquaMarkersTTHeidiBlankenship-2

To finish my project I trimmed down the watercolor paper. To create my DIY Home Decor piece I purchased a wooden frame and a 6" x 6" canvas at Michaels. I spray painted the frame with black spray paint and I painted the canvas with a layer of white paint.  When these were both dry I glued my watercolor paper to my frame with Ranger Multi Medium Matte. After that dried I applied the Ranger Multi Medium Matte to the back of the frame and and the watercolor paper.

Thanks so much for joining me today!  I hope you enjoyed the tutorial.  :)

Tutorial Tuesday creating quick and easy masculine cards with Heidi Blankenship

Now onto today's tutorial, If you are reading this post from a feedburner email you can see Heidi's Blog Video by clicking here. Today's tutorial is just 8 minutes long and it will certainly inspire you to get out your masculine stamps to design cards for all the men in your family.

For the first card I am using JustRite Papercraft CL-02168 A2 Woodgrain Upcycled Frame Background Cling Stamp and Rich Cocoa ink stamped on kraft cardstock.

MasculineCard1

I used Spectrum Noir Markers DR4 and DR6 to color on the frame.  First I applied DR4 and then for the shaded areas I used DR6 and went back over with DR4 to blend the colors.

Card1A

After all of the coloring was done I fussy cut the frame and inked the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.

Card1B

Next I stamped the airplane image from the CL-03740 Going Places Vintage Labels Cling Stamps on to white cardstock using Rich Cocoa ink.  Next I used Spectrum Noir markers DR4, DR6, and EB3 to color the image.  I used DR6 to do the shading on the airplane and then I blended the colors using DR4.  I used EB3 to outline the image.  Then I used JustRite Dies JB-03730 Vintage Labels & Banners Dies to die cut the label shape.  After die cutting the label I left the paper inside the die and inked the inside edges with Antique Linen Distress Ink.

 Card1C

To assemble the card I used a brown base with a layer of red and then the stamped frame image.  I added 3D Foam Squares to the label and to embellish the card I added a metal tag with some twine. Here is a close up of my card with the metal tag.

MasculineCard1A

Supplies for Happy Birthday (red airplane)

Stamps:  JustRite Papercraft CL-02168 A2 Woodgrain Upcycled Frame Background Cling Stamp, CL-03740 Going Places Vintage Labels Cling Stamps
Paper  White, Kraft, Red, Brown
Ink/Markers:  Memento Rich Cocoa, Ranger Distress Inks-Antique Linen, Vintage Photo, Spectrum Noir™ Markers DR4, DR6, EB3
Dies:  JustRite Custom Dies JB-03730 Vintage Labels & Banners Dies
Accessories:  Metal Journey Tag, Twine, 3D Foam Squares, E-Z Runner Adhesive

Card #2 – Good Times Good Friends

Amy designed this great tip sheet for ideas for stacking the sentiment stamps in the CR-02166 Stacking Sentiments Clear Stamps set. You can  download and print the PDF here.

JR CR-02166_Stacking_Sentiments_Clear_ Stamp_TIP_SHEET

For the second card I used CR-02166 Stacking Sentiments Clear Stamps to do the chalkboard technique.  I used the Spellbinders GLD-016 Baby Buntings to cut the black banner shape.

 MasculineCard2

Next I stamped the first sentiment from the Stacking Sentiments Clear Stamps with white pigment ink (since pigment ink stays wet and I wanted a stronger white for this technique) I then used white embossing powder and a heat tool to heat set the embossing. Tip: before you apply hit flick your paper to get off any of the excess embossing powder. Be careful with the heat tool–they get very hot!  Stamp the second stamp directly below the first one and emboss with the white embossing powder. Since the stamps are clear it is very easy to line up.  Now it's time to create the chalkboard look.

  Card2A

I used a cotton ball and a dab it in the white pigment ink.  Then gently rub some of the ink on to the black paper. To add some doodling along the edge of the die cut I used a Prismacolor Colored Pencil White.

  Card2B

Here is a close up of my card.  To assemble the card I used a kraft base with a layer of aqua and another layer of kraft.  I used Spellbinders GLD-016 Baby Buntings to create the largest die cut in Aqua.  For a simple embellishment I added some twine and then placed the chalkboard banner on top.

Accessories: White Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, Twine, 3D Foam Squares, E-Z Runner Adhesive

Card #3 – Thinking of You

For the third and final card I used CL-03740 Going Places Vintage Labels Cling Stamps.

MasculineCard3

I stamped the image of the card with Rich Cocoa ink on to white paper.

  Card3A

I used Spectrum Noir™ Markers DG1, DG2, DG3 to color the banner area above the car. I used one of the dies from the JustRite Dies JB-03730 Vintage Labels & Banners Dies to die cut the label shape.  Next ink the edges of the die cut with Antique Linen Distress Ink.

  Card3B

To assemble the card I had green for a base and then a layer of brown.  I used Spellbinders S5-127 Labels Twenty-Eight to die cut the burlap.  I added 3D Foam Squares to the back f the label and then I also added hot glue to secure the paper to the burlap.

MasculineCard3A

For embellishments I added some metal gears and twine.

Tutorial Tuesday with Heidi Blankenship

February 10, 2015 by JustRite Papercraft 31 Comments

For this week's Tutorial Tuesday Heidi Blankenship shares with you how to layer your JustRite Background Stamps to get fresh new designs.

Reminder the save 25% off all Background Stamp sale ends tonight February 10th at midnight EST.

Carol wrote — I'm really hoping I''ll be able to get hold of this glue in my neck of the woods.  It really makes sparkling everything so much easier.

Don't forget to scroll to the bottom of the post to find out how you can win this week's Tutorial Tuesday Giveaway.

If you are reading this from a feedburner email you can see Heidi's Video by clicking here.  Be sure to watch the video to see the layered background stamp images – they are much easier to see then in today's photos.

For the first background I am using AG-04775 Filigree Leaves Background Stamp and CL-04790 Moroccan Lattice Background Stamp.  For the ink I used Memento Pistachio and Olive Grove.  I used the Pistachio ink on the AG-04775 Filigree Leaves Background Stamp and Olive Grove on the CL-04790 Moroccan Lattice Background Stamp.

Here is Heidi's finished card …

LayeringBackgroundStamps-1A

 and a closer look…..

LayeringBackgroundStamps-1B

Here is a quick tip from Heidi on choosing background stamps to layer:

  1. Pick a bold pattern/geometric pattern and a light and airy pattern (organic pattern) to get a strong design.
  2. Use a dark ink with a light ink for a strong contrast and a bolder pattern.
  3. For a more subtle pattern choose inks that are closer in tonal range.

Here you can see examples of the same two background stamps stamped in different color variations.  Have fun experimenting.

LayeringBackgroundStamps-4

Supplies for True Friends (Green Card):

Stamps:  JustRite Papercraft®  AG-04775 Filigree Leaves Background Stamp, CL-04790 Moroccan Lattice Background Stamp, AG-04955 Friendship Vintage Labels Seven Clear Stamps

Paper:  White, Green, Ink:  Memento Olive Grove, Pistachio, Dies:  Tonic Studios

Ribbon:  May Arts Green Sheer, Accessories:  Wild Orchid Craft Flowers, White Pearls, Diamond Stickles

For the second background I used CL-02027 Burlap Background Stamp, CL-02076 Floral Stitched Background Stamp.  For the Burlap background I used Peanut Brittle ink.  After inking the stamp I took a paper towel and removed some of the ink from the stamp.  The image will still stamp but some spots will be lighter.  For the Floral Stitched background I used Toffee Crunch ink.

  LayeringBackgroundStamps-2

Since both my patterns for this card are a dense design. I inked the burlap image and removed some of the ink before I stamped my paper.  This gave me the variation I wanted so that the CL-02076 Floral Stitched Background Stamp became the stronger image.

  LayeringBackgroundStamps-3

Here is my finished card.
